♢ APPLICATION

APPLICATION
How to

Applications are OPEN.

♢ We accept applications for: fandom (OU), original (OC), alternate universe (AU), and fandom original characters.
♢ Please check the taken and reserve pages to make sure the character you wish to apply for is available.
♢ Up to three versions of a single character may be in the game at once.
° NPCs do take up one of these character slots. They count as AUs.
♢ We allow only one OU version of a character, out of a total of three versions. (That means we can have a combination of either one OU and two AUs, or just three AUs before we stop accepting applications for that character.)
° Alternate universe characters are marked by silver borders on the taken page.
♢ If you are given a revision, you have two weeks to fill it out before we issue an automatic decline.
♢ In the case of a decline, you must wait two weeks before reapplying.
♢ We don't do app challenges.
♢ Headcanon is allowed.
♢ Don't worry about apps getting long. If it takes a lot of words to get across what you're trying to say, then go ahead and use them.
♢ Our goal is to have apps processed within a week of their posting.
♢ Existing players, please make sure you can manage activity with your current characters before applying for more.
♢ Applications are screened. Upon acceptance, you may ask us to unscreen them if you wish.
° Remember: Dreamwidth allows you to reply to your own screened comments!

If you're unsure of who to apply, we suggest the potential app discussion page. Filling out the small form might give you a better idea of who would work better for you and the setting!

Example
Player
Name: What would you like to be called?
Username: [personal profile] username
Current/former characters: Are you already in the game? Were you here before?

Sleeper
Character: The character's name goes here, obviously.
Username: [personal profile] username
Canon: What series is your character from? If an original character, feel free to come up with a fake canon name to be listed on the taken page, while also listing "original". Mark AUs here.
Canon point: Where in their story do they come from?
Age: Tell us how old they are. If your character's age would be altered upon acceptance into the game, make sure to note that you are changing it here, and what their new age will be.
Appearance: Height, build, hair and eye colors, demeanor, even a general fashion sense if you want. Tell us what we would see if we took a glance at your character.
Personality: The meat of the application! This should be around four solid paragraphs describing who your character is, both inside and out. We want to make sure you understand the character and will play them accurately to the setting.

If you'd like, you can also include a paragraph on how you see them reacting to the game environment.
History: Your character's life. You may link to a wiki here, but we would love to hear your own take on it! This is nearly as important as personality, as we will be using both sections to compare to the City history and make sure it's appropriate.
Powers/skills: Be sure to explain how they'll be changed or powered down in the case of non-humans turning human or those who are overpowered.

Characters who are canonically powerless may pitch to gain a power here. All new powers need to enhance an aspect the character already has, whether it relates to their personality or lifestyle, and you will have to explain how you believe it fits with this requirement.

Skills gives us a better idea of what this character is good at in mundane terms, so that we can help with a City position if you're coming up blank.

City
Name: This shouldn't allude to their canon name.
Position: Profession or other pigeonholing as necessary. Basically, "What laws do they abide by?" for us mods to consider. This will tell us what job the character will be assigned in the Cave, as well.
History: Two paragraphs minimum, but this section doesn't need to be very long. You can contact the mods to work with us on this. Absolutely needs to relate to the character in some way or another. Ironic placement, while fun, would not work for the setting. Any powers they may have in the Cave will not be present in this history.

Remember that you need permission if you plan to include other PCs in this history.
Proof: This is what will be waiting for a character in their living quarters when they first wake up in the Cave. It should be a photo, a voice clip, a video, etc., anything that would feature the Sleeper in a way that could be recognized. An item that would make a very solid case for your character living in the Diamond City before the Disaster.

Playing
First-person sample: (Should be at least 5 or 6 sentences. Links allowed: 15 comments minimum. If AU, samples must be of the same AU.)
Third-person sample: (At least 300 words. Links allowed. If AU, samples must be of the same AU.)

Hope Estheim || FFXIII/XIII-2 || i swear if DW gives me a 503 one more time...

[personal profile] eagletalons 2012-04-15 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Powers/skills:

Powers:
Considering he doesn't have any powers during his timeline, I'll be listing what he used to have, then mentioning at the bottom what he'll regain over time.

There are six roles in FFXIII, and each character has three roles in which they excel in-- aka their major roles. Hope's major roles are Ravager, Medic, and Synergist, but his best role is Ravager. He can switch among all the roles if he so chooses, but of course he would rather stick to what he knows best.

Ravager: ("Blaster" in the Japanese version) In D&D jargon? Spellcasting. Magic! Ooooooh. But this magic is of the offensive type, like Aero, Fire, and Thunder. While Hope learns spells a little slower than Vanille (especially in the Medic role), he's not limited to any two specific elements-- he can learn all the spells in the Ravager skill tree (except for the "-strike" ones, which are physical elemental attacks) all the way up to the third-tier, the ones with the suffix "-ga".

Medic: ("Healer") It’s just what’s on the tin. The Medic role focuses on healing spells like Cure, the "-ra", "-ga", "-ja" and "-sa" versions and removing status ailments such as Poison with Esuna, but not in boosting a character. That’s for another role. This is also one role where Vanille has Hope beat, but that doesn't mean his healing ability is less potent. He just learned the spells slower.

Synergist: ("Enhancer") The buffer of the party. Hope can cast Protect, Shell and Haste on himself and his allies to help them out in battle. While he's not as good as Sazh, the top Synergist in the game, he comes in a close second. However, he's unable to cast Vigilance and the "-ra" buffs.

Minor roles: (those he knows too, but not as well as his major roles, unlocked mid-Chapter 10 of FFXIII)

Commando: ("Attacker") No not that kind of commando, get your head out of the gutter. The Commando is the melee fighter of the party, the person who gets up front and attempts to do as much damage as they can. Hope's physical attack power is basically shit, but a well-aimed throw with his boomerang can still hurt.

Sentinel: ("Defender") A Sentinel relies completely on their defensive power, and using their body to protect their allies. ...Yeah don't count on him for this. He's basically a glass cannon. As TV Tropes says, he can deal out huge amounts of damage, but he cant take the same for himself. He's got the lowest HP of all six l'Cie, and this is usually the reason why he's the first to get knocked out in a battle.

Saboteur: ("Jammer") Casting debuffs and spells to hinder the enemy-- the kind of person you'd see throwing a wrench into plans and inflicting status ailments. This is the complete opposite of the Synergist role. He learned this really late in the game, so it's pretty much useless. Good for completion's sake, but as he has his mind full of other kinds of magic, it's not that big of a deal for him.

Others:

Boomerang: His weapon of choice, and oh boy is he good with it. It may not seem like much, but it's tough, collapsible, durable, and a sports-hunting model. Thanks to futuristic technology found in Cocoon, he's able to control its movements for up to five hits before it returns to him. However, it hardly left his hand once he became a l'Cie. Instead, his boomerangs were like accessories to boost his magical ability. The only time he ever used it again was to fight off a paradox, and that was when he had no magic.

Last Resort: His Full-ATB skill, which is accessed only when he's in Ravager mode. A Full-ATB skill is named as such because unlike a normal attack that can use up to three of all six segments, a Full-ATB skill uses up the whole bar. With Last Resort, Hope creates a huge non-elemental blast that creates a pillar of light.

Eidolon: Simply put, the summons for Final Fantasy XIII. Hope's personal summon is Alexander, a huge walking mecha that tends to use physical attacks. Eidolons have a second form called Gestalt mode, which gives them the form of a vehicle and allows their l'Cie to control them directly instead of simply fighting beside them. Alexander's Gestalt mode is not a mode of transport like all the others, but because of his size and slow movements, he transforms into a fortress with lasers, keeping Hope safely tucked inside.

Which ones will he get back? Just the Ravager role (by extension, Last Resort). Everything else? Nope, no chance. Full list of those spells over here, all highlighted in yellow. The others are stat boosts and negligible for the game because this is not a JRPG.

Of course, the spells themselves will be toned down, especially Last Resort, because Hope as a Ravager is a powerhouse.

Skills:
He's smart. Freakishly smart. He jumped several levels while in school, which most likely led to early graduation in both high school and college. He has an affinity for science and machines and was able to get a few of them up and running even as a child, so it's not surprising that he was the one who made Serah and Noel's lives easier (and harder, in a way) with inventions and findings. Not to mention he became director of the best research unit of the Academy, and is regarded as the de facto boss of the whole institute. Holy balls.

Hope is very clearly an academic who works with his hands only when machines and robotics are involved. Yes, yes, it's pretty weird that magic and science would come together, but their link is Hope's mind.
