♢ POTENTIAL APP DISCUSSION

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS
How to

While the worldbuilding post is an excellent place to try and figure out City history CR, this page is more to help you to decide who you should apply for in the first place. Give us a good idea of what kind of character you're thinking of and let others comment in on how they might see it working!

Think of it as a thought experiment for yourself and other players. As a reminder, this is completely optional. You are totally free to reserve or apply someone without commenting to this post first.

♢ Reception to your idea will have no effect on how the mods process your app. This is only a tool to help you decide who to put the effort into.
♢ Don't spam or flame any potential character comments. While just going "OMG YES!!" can be encouraging, it doesn't really give anyone a whole lot to work with, and neither does shooting someone down. Be constructive.
♢ Give your honest opinion. If you think a character really wouldn't fit in the setting, express your concerns. Maybe the potential applicant didn't think of it from a certain point of view. Paired with the above, please don't just go "I don't think this will work". Provide some reasoning!
♢ Don't take anything personal. Anyone who comments back to you on this post is only trying to help — even if it isn't outright encouragement.

Your name: PUR
Character name: Trickster/Gabriel
Fandom: Supernatural

City life: I'm thinking he runs some kind of sweet-shop or cafe which caters to sweet-things--cakes and iced buns and pies and whatever. Because he has a sweet-tooth.

Powers: Because Gabriel's powers encompass just about EVERYTHING EVER, I'm thinking of a kind of 'trickster' theme to keep the powers that appear to include a kind of 'sleight of hand' sort of effect. So things he needs or can use to manipulate, prank or go prankster-vigilante on people, or ones he can use to make himself appear to be near-all-powerful or omniscient even though he isn't anymore.

Do you think they'll be active? Decently so! He'd take things at his own pace, though, and he could easily have periods of apparently doing nothing.

Do you think they'll participate in plot? Mmm depends. I'm not sure on my canon-point, which will make the biggest difference. Earlier canon, he won't be as involved in the plot, but he'd keep himself busy and watchful and interested in who's behind this 'trick'. Later canon, he would be more interested in the plot because he'd have more at stake, though still may not be as active as others.

Why this character interests you here: Because ~conspiracy~ and also the setting in which to explore/balance the diachrony of two very different lives. Gabriel isn't human originally; even while playing at being human he seems to keep himself somewhat aloof. Seeing how he handles a human backstory would be fun.

Potential concerns: Well, I've no idea what canon-point to bring him from, for one. Earlier canon would put him in denial and wanting to stay out of conflicts, and believing in 'destiny' and all that. Later canon would see him invested in the quest of averting the apocalypse and more overtly concerned with the people he considers important to him.

Also, Gabriel's someone who can maintain the status quo for a long, long time. It could be hard to arouse his interest beyond wanting to irritate or take vengeance on people. So I guess a consideration with his canon-point would be how able he might be to change or whether he'd potentially stagnate.

I really like the idea of using a "trickster" theme to his powers. It's a nice way to bunch them up and keep them relevant to each other.

Here's a thought: why would you want to bring him from an earlier canonpoint, where he would be less active and involved, rather than a later one? It seems the biggest difference between the two would be his activity levels, and perhaps some of his mindset on the setting? What do you think would make him the most flexible?

Yeah, he's got a number of abilities which don't have much to do with each other, but all of which could be used in a trickstering fashion, so it made the most sense. XD

Pur asplains herself do well, doesn't she? XD Bringing him in from an earlier canonpoint basically means I wouldn't have to micromanage him to the degree a character active in the metaplot might need. It also means he could get invested in different things; later canon means he's already invested in something, whereas in earlier canon he's just hiding and could be drawn out in different ways once in game. Flipside, later canon means his masks are already broken and he'd be potentially more open, even though he's interested in more specific things.

I think I might be leaning toward later canon, but not quite enough to say 'definitely' yet.
